Dr. James Myers, DVM

Dr. James Myers grew up on the central coast of California in Paso Robles, riding horses mostly in the western disciplines.  Not straying far from his home of Paso Robles,  he completed his undergraduate studies at Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo doubling majoring in agribusiness and animal science.  During veterinary school at the University of California, Davis, Jim worked as a surgical technician at the large animal hospital.  Upon graduation in 2013, he spent one year completing a rotating internship at Loomis Basin Equine Medical Center where he gained experience in caring for critically ill patients, anesthesia and advanced diagnostics.  Upon completion of his year at Loomis Basin Equine, Jim moved east to pursue a residency in Theriogenology at the University of Pennsylvania, New Bolton Center.  Upon moving back to the west coast, Dr. Myers worked in an ambulatory position with Sonoma Marin Veterinary Services offering ambulatory lameness, emergency medicine and reproductive services to clients of both the Sonoma and Marin counties.  In 2019, Jim joined the team at Circle Oak Equine and expanded their services to include reproduction and further expand the services he offers in sports medicine.  In his downtime, Jim cherishes his time with his fiancé Luisa, riding their horses, traveling and the outdoors.

Claire Freson, Veterinary Technician

Claire Freson grew up in a small town in Vermont and started riding when she was 6. Her most fond memories of her youth involve horses; Friday night gymkhanas, endless summer days at the barn and leading trail rides at her summer job. Claire remained close to home for college, attending the University of Vermont so that she could continue training her heart horse Stellar, then a rising 3 year old. After graduating with a B.S. in Exercise Science, Claire moved to the Mendocino coast for an AmeriCorps position at a local healthcare clinic. She loved the area and stayed in Point Arena, continuing to work both at the clinic and as an EMT. During this time, she met her partner Krispin, and in 2015, they left the coast to travel the world for 7 months. After returning, Claire shifted her medical focus from humans to animals. She began working as a technician at a small animal clinic in Gualala while pursuing a veterinary technology certificate in Santa Rosa. In early 2020, they moved to Sebastopol and Claire joined Gold Coast Equine as a technician soon after. She looks forward to continuing her career providing care for both large and small animals as she heads off to veterinary school in the fall of 2021, but will dearly miss Gold Coast Equine, our clients, and our patients!
